The Georgia Performance Standards is a guideline for teachers to make sure students meet the appropriate learning goals at the appropriate grade level. As a future educator, I am using this page to accumulate resources that will smooth the transition of a first year teacher from the college classroom as a student to the role as a teacher in the high school classroom. It is no doubt that every teacher’s first three years of teaching are the most frustrating, as those are the times that shape our teaching styles, philosophies, and personas in the classroom.
The first resource I absolutely love is Jim Burke’s English Companion Ning. This is a website created by teacher/author Jim Burke that allows teachers to come together as a community from all over and share their ideas in how to effectively teach English in the classroom. There are groups created by teachers who share a common interest, questions posed by teachers that get answered by others, and many great teacher development materials.
